HAT/RA Cooling Fluid Control Valve

The HAT/RA automatically adjusts cooling flow as operating temperatures change, increasing flow when more cooling is needed and reducing it as temperatures fall. HAT/RA-LP models incorporate controlled leakage to maintain sensitivity to upstream temperature changes.

Key Features

Self-Actuating Operation – Requires no external power, sensors, or controls
Reduces Unnecessary Cooling Flow – Restricts flow as cooling demand decreases
Stable Fluid Temperatures – Maintains a relatively constant fluid temperature as operating conditions vary

Cooling Fluid Control Valve Overview

The HAT/RA is a self-actuating cooling fluid control valve that regulates the flow of cooling water, glycol, or other cooling media to help prevent equipment or processes from overheating. This thermostatic cooling valve can also function as a thermal relief valve, opening on rising temperature to relieve excess heat from the system.

For heating applications that require the valve to open as fluid temperature falls, use the HAT inline temperature control valve.

Valve Configurations

HAT/RA
Controls cooling media based on the temperature of fluid passing directly through the valve.

HAT/RA-LP
Adds controlled leakage so changing upstream fluid temperature reaches the actuator while the main valve is otherwise closed.

Design Features

  • Exclusive Thermoloid® paraffin wax actuator
  • Compact, low-mass design for responsive temperature control
  • Corrosion-resistant –stainless steel body, fittings, spring, and plug
  • Ram-type plug design for reliable shut-off
  • Operates in any orientation and a narrow temperature band
  • Two wrench flats for easy installation
  • Wide choice of set points
  • Unaffected by pressure variations

Typical Applications

Cooling Fluid Control

Typical cooling water and fluid temperature control applications include:

  • Compressors
  • Engines
  • Heat exchangers
  • Welding equipment
  • Electrical equipment

How the HAT/RA Valve Works

The HAT/RA uses a thermal actuator to sense inline fluid temperature. As temperature rises into the valve’s operating range, the reverse-acting valve modulates open to increase cooling media flow. As temperature falls, the valve modulates toward closed to reduce flow.

HAT/RA-LP models maintain a small amount of controlled leakage while otherwise closed, allowing the actuator to respond to changing upstream fluid temperature.
