Fluid Temperature Control Valve Overview
The TV/HAT combines the HAT valve with tube compression fittings for integration into small-bore tubing systems, tracer tubing, and pre-traced tubing bundles. Available in 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ tube sizes, the valve can be configured with multiple temperature set points and seal options to control compatible fluids across a range of industrial applications.
For cooling applications that require increased coolant flow as temperature rises, use the reverse-acting TV/HAT-RA cooling fluid control valve.
Design Features
- Exclusive Thermoloid® wax thermal actuator
- Parker A-LOK tube compression fittings standard; Swagelok fittings available
- Corrosion-resistant – stainless steel body, fittings, spring, and plug
- Compact design for small-bore tubing installations
- Ram-type plug for tight reliable shutoff
- Operates in any position and within a narrow temperature band
- Downstream actuator for greater sensitivity
- Unaffected by pressure variations
Typical Applications
- Glycol tracing control: Used as a glycol tracing control valve at the end of the circuit to regulate return flow as fluid temperature changes, maintaining required tracing conditions.
- Steam tracing and condensate control: Controls condensate discharge temperature to support efficient steam tracing operation and reduce live steam loss.
- Instrument and process tracing: Maintains lower-temperature tracing for temperature-sensitive instruments and processes under 150°F (66°C) to help prevent overheating.
- Galley scald protection: Controls hot water temperature in aircraft galley systems to help prevent scalding at the point of use.
- Freeze protection and winterization: Provides temperature-responsive flow for tubing and fluid systems exposed to freezing conditions.

How the TV/HAT Valve Works
Utilizing a thermostatic wax actuator, the TV/HAT valve responds directly to fluid temperature. As fluid temperature falls to the valve’s set point, the valve opens to increase flow. As temperature rises, the valve modulates toward closed to maintain a controlled discharge temperature.
In steam tracing applications, the TV/HAT is wide open during startup for rapid venting and initial heat-up. After condensate forms and cools to the valve’s set point, the valve modulates the flow to maintain a constant condensate discharge temperature. After shutdown, the valve is self-draining to eliminate freeze damage.
