Instrument Analyzer Systems
Thermostatic valves control sample and enclosure temperatures to protect sensitive instrumentation, support reliable measurements, and reduce equipment downtime.
View ProductsProtecting Measurement Accuracy and Analyzer Reliability
Instrumentation and analyzer systems depend on process samples and sensitive equipment remaining within required operating limits.
Excessive heat can cause sample fluids to vaporize, change viscosity, or reach analyzers at temperatures above their allowable range. Cold conditions can cause fluids to thicken or freeze in process lines, instruments, and enclosures. These thermal extremes can affect sample condition and measurement reliability, damage equipment, or take instrumentation offline.
Thermostatic valves respond directly to changing thermal conditions to regulate heating or cooling media or stop flow when temperatures move outside the required range, without external power or electronic controls.
Sample Conditioning and Analyzer Protection
Process sampling and sample conditioning systems may require both process analyzer cooling and over-temperature protection before the sample reaches downstream instrumentation.
Sample Cooler Temperature Control
Sample coolers reduce process fluid temperatures before they reach analyzers or other downstream instrumentation.
ThermOmegaTech® US/S-XR and TV/US-XR valves regulate cooling media flow into the sample cooler to help maintain the sample within the required range. This supports analyzers and instrumentation that require controlled sample conditions for proper analysis.
High-Temperature Sample Protection
If cooling water is lost or the primary sample cooler cannot provide sufficient cooling, an overheated sample can continue downstream to sensitive analyzers and instrumentation.
A thermal shutoff valve is commonly used after the sample cooler to provide an additional layer of protection. ThermOmegaTech® HST high temperature shutoff valve stops flow when the temperature exceeds the allowable set point, preventing overheated media from reaching downstream equipment.
Instrument Enclosures and Analyzer Shelters
Analyzer shelters, instrument cabinets, and insulated enclosures reduce exposure to weather and physical damage, but the equipment and sample lines inside can still be affected by freezing or excessive heat.
Freezing, vaporization, or changes in fluid viscosity can affect measurement accuracy and equipment operation. Instrument enclosure temperature control regulates heating or cooling media to keep the enclosure within its specified operating range.
Freeze Protection and Heating Control
Steam tracing is commonly used to heat instrument and analyzer enclosures in cold environments. However, uncontrolled steam flow can overheat the enclosure and affect the equipment or samples inside.
ThermOmegaTech® TV/SC-I valves mount through the enclosure wall and sense internal ambient conditions to regulate steam flow. For designs that keep the steam coil and valve connections inside the enclosure, TV/SC-A valves provide the same self-actuating control.
The ITCH Assembly provides an integrated option for applications requiring a complete steam-heating and enclosure control system.
Cooling Control for Instrument Enclosures
Instrument enclosures may also require cooling where ambient conditions, nearby process equipment, or internal heat loads cause the enclosure to overheat.
ThermOmegaTech® TV/SC-IR valves regulate water, glycol, air, or other cooling media as the enclosure heats up. Flow increases with cooling demand and decreases as the enclosure cools.
This self-actuating control helps maintain the required operating environment without a separate powered control loop.
Common Instrumentation and Analyzer Applications
These systems are used throughout power generation, chemical processing, refining, petrochemical processing, and other industrial facilities where temperature can affect sample condition, measurement reliability, or equipment operation.
