Interchangeable Cartridge Scald Protection Valve
The IC/SP uses an interchangeable cartridge design that is tee-mounted into the protected piping, positioning the thermal actuator directly in the water stream without restricting flow through the main line. The thermal actuator responds quickly to changes in water temperature.
Available in ¾″ NPT with brass or stainless-steel construction, the IC/SP provides hot water scald protection for emergency water systems and can serve as the primary method of over-temperature protection or as a fail-safe backup on heat-traced systems.
For applications requiring ambient-temperature sensing, see the HAT/SP Scald Protection Valve.

IC/SP Installation
The IC/SP Scald Protection Valve is installed into a minimum 1″ tee with either a 1″ × ¾″ NPT reducer bushing or a 1¼″ × ¾″ × 1¼″ NPT reducer tee without a bushing within the protected system. Adequate internal clearance must be provided for the actuator.
How the IC/SP Valve Works
When water temperature rises into the valve’s operating range, the thermal actuator responds directly to the water temperature and modulates the valve open to discharge overheated water. As cooler replacement water reaches the valve and the temperature falls below the closing point, the valve modulates closed to minimize water loss.
Because the actuator remains continuously wetted, the IC/SP responds to water temperature rather than ambient air temperature, making it well suited for heat-traced lines where discharge is required only if the water itself overheats.
