STVM® Cartridge Assembly Overview
The STVM® cartridge assembly is the serviceable mixing component within the STVM® steam and water mixing valve. Its removable design allows the washdown station to be serviced in the field without removing the station, minimizing downtime. The cartridge can be removed for cleaning and inspection, then reused when appropriate.
See the STVM® Washdown Station for information on the complete station.
Design Features
- Exclusive Thermoloid® wax thermal actuator
- Single moving element simplifies cartridge replacement and maintenance
- Corrosion-resistant – long service life
- Available in stainless steel or brass construction

How the STVM® Cartridge Works
Inside the STVM® cartridge, hot water is created when cold water enters the valve and moves from the inside outward, while incoming steam moves from the outside inward. Mixing occurs as the two flows collide, thoroughly combining and heating the water to the desired temperature. This Venturi mixing action reduces the noise and vibration typically associated with other types of mixers which can reduce operator stress.
The internal flow pattern also creates a scouring action that helps minimize mineral buildup. As a safety feature, the thermal actuator in the valve outlet is designed to turn off the steam flow into the valve if the cold water supply is interrupted.
Field Replacement and Maintenance
The cartridge can be replaced in an installed STVM® washdown station in minutes using a standard wrench, allowing service without removing the station from its installed location. Removed cartridges can be cleaned by immersing them in a descaling solution, inspected, and reused when appropriate.
Confirm the installed cartridge material and temperature setting before ordering a replacement.
